Narva College holds a record number of Russian language summer courses
On June 20th, Narva College's summer of Russian language courses begins with the arrival of the first group, the other three following in late June and July. Narva College has been holding the Russian language summer courses since 2014.
Students from the University of Pittsburgh in the U.S. will be the first to arrive in Narva this year to participate in an intensive course in Russian language and culture. The aim of the language programme is to offer the students a language-learning experience in an immersive environment. During the eight-week course programme, the students have intensive 200 hours of classroom language studies complemented with thematic lectures on Russian and Estonian culture, field trips around Estonia, and several events in Narva. The students come with different backgrounds in Russian language, entering with lower intermediate to advanced level.
The American Councils, the University of Gothenburg in Sweden and the Estonian Academy of Security Sciences also bring their students to Narva College for Russian language courses, in addition to the University of Pittsburgh. Altogether, Narva College will welcome over 70 international students this summer.
The tradition of summer Russian language courses at Narva College started in 2014 and has shown a growing number of participants every summer. Along with the rising number of groups, the geography of the participants has also expanded, starting with only the U.S. students in 2014 and 2015, and expanding to include French, Swedish, and Estonian groups this year.
